There are so many different hardware and software combinations in the environment that it is more than just a little likely that some update may conflict. It wasĪt that point in my young life that I learned one must always evaluate the updates that will be installed. I have only downloaded and installed a driver for hardware via Windows Update one time in my nearly 30 years experience. I can also tell you that since the update system for Windows first started including hardware advice I took it as exactly that. I have been in computer IT since the 1980s and can tell you that friendly exchange is where we benefit the most. The only time the idiot thought came into my mind was when you decided to mention it and jump up on a holier than thou box. I must say that I was enjoying reading this thread and at no point thought you were being treated like an idiot. I'm currently re-installing Windows 7 on both and removing this update from the Windows Update options. This wasĮspecially frustrating because both the computers I built for my extended family had the same hardware setup - and the update killed them both. Wish there was a searchable method of manually removing the driver but I found none and had to re-install Windows 7. Couldn't even boot into safe mode and none of the Advanced Boot options could help either.
